We went 2-3 on the night; although some of our fighters didn’t get the results they were looking for, we had many standout moments and some very exciting action!

Grady Pesch stepped up as a last-minute replacement with only 4 days’ notice and brought his A-game to the ring. Despite his opponent’s strong clinch game, Grady showcased his teeps and range throughout the match. Though the decision didn’t swing his way this time, his determination and skill were undeniable. Grady will keep pushing, as always!

Star Pruitt stole the show with impeccable range and dynamic striking tonight! His technique and precision kept the crowd on the edge of their seats. Securing a unanimous decision victory, Star proved once again why he is a force to be reckoned with.

Jess Hays showed true grit and determination in the face of a tough and experienced opponent, battling through all 5 rounds with everything she had. Despite falling short this time, Jess conquered many firsts, including her first title shot and first A class fight without shin guards. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow stronger. Onward to the next chapter, Jess!

CJ Hays displayed excellent patience and distance management right from the start, coupled with subtle movements that kept his opponent guessing. Landing a devastating low kick early on showcased his skill and strategy. However, the fight took a turn when CJ got caught with a nasty right hand, leading to a ground and pound stoppage. In the fight game, often it only takes one punch.

Hykeem Green started off a bit slow and hesitant, but he turned things around in round 3, showcasing his resilience and skill to secure a majority decision victory! With this win, he’s now the new Ignite Lightweight Champion. Despite a brief halt due to an illegal knee, Hykeem pushed through, and we also commend his opponent for continuing to fight. Good work, Hykeem!

Ignite Fights: Mecca XX https://thecellargym.com/muay-thai/mecca-xx Mon, 13 Nov 2023 20:24:52 +0000 https://thecellargym.com/?p=10338 The Cellar Gym team brought two Muay Thai fighters and three MMA fighters to Ignite Fights’ Mecca XX fight event on November 11th in Bloomington, MN. We went 3-2 on the night, with some great performances and exciting finishes!

Spencer Anderson put on a strong performance in his Muay Thai bout, demonstrating excellent control of the pace. However, he faced challenges when it came to closing the distance and landing effective strikes. Despite the hurdles, he went the distance, lasting all three rounds, and gained valuable experience and insights despite losing a unanimous decision. Back to the gym to work on those aspects and come back even stronger!

Grady Pesch secured his win with a second-round TKO. He skillfully evaded kicks, landed his own precise low kicks, and dominated the clinch, culminating in a well-executed knee finish.

Kendall Sandifer secured a unanimous decision victory in his MMA fight with his excellent boxing skills, showcasing the ability to stick and move and get off the tracks when needed. Nice job!

Xavier Rosenbloom made quite a statement! He won the fight in the second round with a North-South choke. He utilized excellent range and feinting skills, which set up his takedowns beautifully. Even when faced with a tight Guillotine attempt, Xavier’s determination paid off as he fought through to secure the win.

Bobby Lee faced a tough and game opponent in the main event of the evening. Bobby had a great first two rounds; unfortunately, his game plan wasn’t enough to outpace his opponent, and he got stuck under a barrage of ground strikes in the fourth round, losing by TKO. We will improve a few small mistakes and get him back in the cage soon.

Hykeem locked in an impressive arm triangle finish in the first round against an equally dangerous grappler, improving his record to 3-0. Anteze pulled off a spectacular win with a takedown against a strong wrestler, finishing the match with a very tight triangle choke. A great performance by both of our fighters — congratulations!

Hays and Anteze Howard both fought to dominant 2nd round finishes last Friday, December 10 at LFA 120 at Mystic Lake Casino!

Anteze Howard defeated Gunner Charbonneau by 2nd round submission via triangle choke! It was a good back and forth scrap. Congrats Anteze!

C.J. Hays defeated Jason Alvarez by 2nd round TKO via punches! This fight was a good experience builder for C.J. He lost the first round, then took control in the second round. He dropped his opponent with a body kick, established a dominant back control position, then got the finish via ground and pound!

Pam Sorenson Fights to Decision Loss at Bellator 271 https://thecellargym.com/mixed-martial-arts/pam-sorenson-bellator-271 Tue, 16 Nov 2021 18:56:00 +0000 https://thecellargym.com/?p=9257 Pam ‘Bam’ Sorenson made her second Bellator appearance against Arlene Blencowe on November 12 at Bellator 271. Pam displayed some great cage wrestling and takedown attempts, but she was not able to get her opponent to the ground and execute her game plan.

Although Pam had some great moments in the fight, she found herself on the wrong end of her opponent’s striking and ultimately lost by decision after three hard rounds. Our hats go off to Arlene and her team for an excellent performance. Pam is in good spirits about this experience, and she’s looking forward to coming back strong in 2022!

Nate displayed incredible focus, used excellent boxing and evasive movement, and landed a number of devastating low kicks to slow down his opponent. The fight was an absolutely thrilling back-and-forth war for all five rounds, but Nate’s superior striking and defensive grappling helped him secure the judges’ decision.

A big thanks to Fury for the opportunity, and thank you to everyone that helped Nate prepare for battle! Congratulations, Nate – we can’t wait to see what’s next for him!

Kenn Glenn Scores Huge Knockout at Fury 51 https://thecellargym.com/mixed-martial-arts/kenn-glenn-fury-51 Tue, 14 Sep 2021 16:00:00 +0000 https://thecellargym.com/?p=9167 Cellar BJJ coach Kenn Glenn fought in last Sunday’s Fury FC 51 main event against reigning lightweight champ Le’Ville Simpson. After two rounds of exciting back-and-forth action, Kenn landed a massive right hook in the third round that instantly dropped Simpson to the canvas. Kenn followed up with another devastating right hand to crumble his opponent and end the fight by TKO!

We are beyond thrilled to see Kenn get his arm raised in such a decisive victory, especially after a couple of close losses by split decision in his recent Fury matchups. We suspect that a bid for the Fury lightweight belt might be up next for Kenn — we can’t wait to see him action again soon!

Cellar Fighters Compete at 3 River Throwdown XVII https://thecellargym.com/mixed-martial-arts/3-river-throwdown-xvii Mon, 13 Sep 2021 23:06:34 +0000 https://thecellargym.com/?p=9157 Cellar fighters Caleb Merth, Tom Krenzel, and C.J. Hays competed in the 3 River Throwdown XVII event on September 11 in Onalaska, WI. Our team went 1-2 on the evening, with C.J. Hays bringing home an awesome win and both Caleb and Tom showing a great deal of heart and skill in the cage.

C.J. Hays def. Alfonso Bell at 3 River Throwdown XVII

C.J. Hays started off our night with excellent patience and defense against a powerful striker. Early in the first round, C.J. timed a perfect body lock into a clean takedown. After dominating his opponent in side control, C.J. passed to full mount and locked up a tight head and arm choke, forcing a tap at just 1:24 of the first round. Congratulations C.J. — great display of control and technique!

Ben Ross def. Tom Krenzel at 3 River Throwdown XVII

Tom Krenzel started slow and faced some early adversity. With his back to the cage he dug in and landed a monster hook that floored his opponent. Tom went to the ground for some great ground and pound, but his opponent survived the round. In the second round, Tom was taken down off a caught kick. Tom locked up his guard and didn’t take much damage, but he was unable to show his bottom Jiu Jitsu game and spent most of the round on bottom. In the third, Tom was too persistent going for the takedown and his opponent showed strong defense. Tom lost the fight by decision.

Felipe Martinez def. Caleb Merth at 3 River Throwdown XVII

Caleb Merth looked great during the warmups, but had a tricky time finding his timing in the cage. During one of the first real exchanges of the fight, he got caught by a solid right hand. Caleb dropped to the ground and his opponent quickly attacked with the RNC. Caleb lost by submission.

The losses are tough, especially after long training camps, but they’re part of the game. Although these were difficult lessons learned for Tom and Caleb, we’ll make changes in the gym and come back even stronger. We’re extremely proud of C.J. for his hard work during camp and his dominant win, and we look forward to seeing all three fighters back in action soon. Good work guys!
