Muay Thai: First Class
We’re so excited to have you training with us here at The Cellar Gym! Read on to learn more about what to expect at your first Muay Thai class.
What to bring
All you need for your first Muay Thai class is your boxing gloves and comfortable workout clothes! We also advise bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated before, during, and after class.
Check in
We recommend arriving at the gym 10-15 minutes early for your class. Visit the front desk to get checked in, and we can help you with anything you might need. Your Muay Thai class will meet on the large central mat in the middle of the main gym space.
Get ready
All classes at The Cellar Gym are performed barefoot. We don’t recommend wearing socks during class, as they may cause you to slip and lose your footing on the mats.
Although we don’t require students to wrap their hands, hand wraps can provide a little extra protection for your hands inside your boxing gloves. New to wrapping your hands? Check out this video for a quick tutorial.
If it’s your first time, let your instructor know! We are committed to making sure your first Muay Thai experience with us is a great one.
During class
Every Muay Thai class will begin with all students lining up on the mat to bow in. Your instructor will lead a warm-up period that may include light cardio activity, stretching, and body weight exercises.
Following the warm-up, your instructor will demonstrate a drill or technique to practice. The class may also divide into pairs to practice techniques or combinations with a partner. Remember, please don’t hesitate to ask questions!
After class
Each of our Muay Thai classes are 1 hour long. At the end of class, please wipe down and put away any equipment that you may have used, such as focus mitts or kick shields.
After you’ve finished your workout, be sure to drink plenty of water and eat a nutritious meal or snack. We also recommend doing some stretching or foam rolling to reduce any soreness and stiffness that may occur the day after your workout.
