Ignite Fights: Mecca XXIII
The Cellar Gym team had a busy day at Ignite Fights’ Mecca XXIII event at Canterbury Park on November 2nd! We went 3-1 on the evening and brought home one championship belt after some very exciting action.
Starlon Pruitt faced a very skilled local standout in his first Class A fight. After some great exchanges in the first, Star landed a devastating right hand in the second round and caused the fight to be stopped by the ringside doctor, securing his win by TKO.
Marty Voves won by first round KO against a tough and experienced local fighter. Marty showed great patience in the exchanges, skillfully entering the clinch to deliver a nasty knee to the liver that ended the fight.
Matt Cunningham stuck to a well-practiced game plan. He ended the fight in just 26 seconds, with a spectacular TKO coming by way of a brutal head kick. With his victory, Matt is the new Ignite 165 lb. Champion! Congratulations Matt, very well earned!
In his MMA bout, Anteze Howard fought all five rounds and lost via unanimous decision. Anteze had some good exchanges on the feet, but most of the fight was on the cage wrestling and he wasn’t quite able to implement his game plan there. We will learn and grow from this fight, and Anteze will be back in action soon.
