Katie Locken
Coach Katie’s martial arts journey began over 20 years ago, at the age of 10, when her parents enrolled her brother in karate following the events of September 11, 2001. Intrigued by her brother’s training, Katie quickly developed a passion for the sport and requested to join as well. She rapidly progressed through the ranks, eventually earning a 4th-degree black belt.
As a teenager, Katie began coaching karate, a role she continued to embrace into adulthood. In 2014, she transitioned to training in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and mixed martial arts, competing in each discipline. In 2022, she earned her Kru under Grand Master Ajarn Chai and the World Thai Boxing Association.
With two national titles and experience competing overseas in the WAKO World Championships as a member of Team USA Kickboxing, Katie continues to grow as a competitor. However, her true passion lies in coaching and developing the youth program. She firmly believes in the transformative power of martial arts, especially for children. Katie sees martial arts as a tool to cultivate resilience, adaptability, respect, and hard work in young minds, setting them up for lifelong success.
Katie’s teaching style is characterized by a balance of firmness and nurturing support. She holds her students to high expectations, believing in their capabilities, while also providing the encouragement and guidance they need to succeed.
Outside the gym, Katie loves spending time with her husband and three children. They enjoy reading, traveling, and experiencing the world together.
