Mecca XXII

The Cellar Gym had six Muay Thai fighters in action at Ignite Fights’ Mecca XXII event last Saturday, February 15th at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, MN. All six fighters easily made weight and came into their fights looking absolutely prepped and ready. Although we faced some very tough opponents, we finished with 3 wins and 3 losses, with each of our fighters delivering excellent performances across the entire evening.
Ezra Gaim fought very well against a larger opponent and made big improvements from his last fight. He lost a unanimous decision after three solid rounds of action. Back to the gym and onto the next one!
Kailey Everett demonstrated excellent power and structure, utilizing great elbows and knees from the clinch to seal her victory by unanimous decision. We are very grateful to her opponent Abby for taking the fight on short notice; thank you for a very competitive fight!
Gabe Pesch had a tough fight after getting clipped in the first. He ended up with a unanimous decision loss. Gabe showed a lot of grit and heart, and a willingness to keep adjusting and fighting. We’ll keep working and improving, and Gabe will be back very soon.
Lucy Berman won a fast-paced fight via split decision. She landed a solid spinning back fist in the second round and captured the judges’ decision with aggressive forward pressure and good ring control. Nice work, Lucy!
Nick Jackson had a hard-fought fight against an aggressive opponent, facing some adversity in the first round. Nick had a great game plan and clearly captured the second round; although he worked hard to build upon the momentum, he got caught again in the third round and lost by unanimous decision. It was a good and tough fight overall. We’ll get back to work soon!
Jess Hays won by split decision after three very well-matched rounds against another tough local standout. Jess showed great patience and bounce throughout her fight, showcasing a new set of skills to take the decision by a close margin. Great job Jess!
We’re so proud of the hard work by our fighters, and thankful to the HUGE team who came out to support us! Thank you all!
