Cellar Fighters In Action and Grand Casino Hinckley
It was another great night of fights as Warriors Fight Promotions returned to the Grand Casino – Hinckley on August 22nd. The Cellar fans turned out in great numbers to support two of the youngest members of the Cellar Fight Team.
19 yr old Nick Riley returned to the ring after a 2 year layoff. Nick (3-0) was fighting against the bigger John Profant (0-0) from Cambridge, MN. It was an interesting match up not just because of the weight difference, but also because Profant had been invited to do some extra training at the Cellar before the match was arranged. The two ended up being matched against each other, but the two continued to train side by side for about 3 weeks leading up to the fight. The fight was action packed and exciting as both fighters gave it everything they had. End the end the judges were unable to pick a winner and the bout was scored a draw. Congratulations to both fighters and we hope to see John Profant continue working with us in the future.
Later in the evening 21 yr old Elijah Thibodeaux made his amateur kickboxing debut against Scott Masterton Jr. Eventhough both fighters came into the bout with no full-contact fight experience, many spectators called this one of the most technical and exciting fights of the night. In the end, Elijah was able to control the distance of the fight to avoid Masterton’s kicks and land his own strikes. The judges scored the bout a majority decision in favor of Elijah.
Also scheduled to fight for the Cellar was IKF Cruiserweight World Champion, Adam McDermid in a non-title fight against Eau Claire’s Nate Emmons. Unfortunately this bout was cancelled shortly after weigh-ins due to a family emergency with Emmons. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Nate and his family. We are sure these two will get a chance to mix it up in the ring at a later date.
Congratulations to all the fighters Saturday evening and a big thank you to the many Cellar fans in attendance at the casino!
