Cellar Kickboxing’s Chris Cichon will face Englands, Matt Gilbert for the IKF Light Middleweight World Title on January 9th, 2009 at the Mermaid Event Center in Mounds View, MN.

Cichon is currently ranked #1 in the world by the International Kickboxing Federation in the Light Middleweight division and is the current IKF U.S. Champion; Gilbert is ranked #3. The two fighters achieved their high ranking due to their performance at the 2008 IKF World Classic in Orlando, Florida. Cichon won the tournament’s light middleweight division, however he did not face Gilbert along the way. Gilbert won his preliminary bout in the tournament, but lost against his UK teammate Pat Sheehan to finish 3rd in the tournament.

As always, Cellar Kickboxing will be a ticket outlet for the event and we are looking to fill the event center to max capacity with Cellar fans. Mark the date and make plans to attend this huge event!

Chris Cichon will now be facing England’s Alex Sirman (8-1-1) instead of Matt Gilbert. Gilbert and Sirman squared off on November 30th outside London, England and Sirman walked away with an impressive win by unanimous decision. The date for the event is still scheduled for Friday January 9th, but it has now been moved to the Robert’s Sports Bar in Mounds View, MN (only 1 mile north from the Mermaid Event Center). We are expecting a huge crowd for this event and the Robert’s Sports Bar can host more spectators than The Mermaid. Doors open at 6:00pm, fights start at 8:00pm.
