IKF World Classic – Sunday Finals

IKF world classic kickboxing champion

The tournament picked up again bright and early Sunday morning around 10:30 am, but started with preliminary bouts that weren’t finished from Saturday’s schedule.

Chris Cichon was the first to fight in the finals where he faced England’s Pat Sheehan. Sheehan entered the tournament with a record of 6-0 and looked very impressive in his two preliminary round wins to advance to the finals. The two finalists wasted no time and began firing fast combinations and using the entire ring. About a minute into the first round Cichon landed a side kick to Sheehan’s arm that looked to have injured Sheehan’s shoulder. As Sheehan began to carry his left hand very low, Cichon threw a high round kick, Sheehan ducked to avoid the kick, but caught Cichon’s kicking knee and sending Sheehan to the floor unconscious. Cichon won by TKO at 1:12 into round #1. Hopefully Sheehan can give his shoulder time to rest and the two fighters can meet again in the future to fight in an IKF title fight.

Travis Mason fought next for the World Classic Title. Even though his skills were improving by leaps and bounds with his first two fights in the tournament, his 2-0 record made him a huge underdog against 11-2-1, Ashley Collins from England. Mason looked much more relaxed in this fight and brought steady pressure to the European fighter and in the end it was enough to come away with the judges decision.

Last, but not least, Adam McDermid (20-4-1) faced New Jersey’s Michael Decker (13-3) for the cruiserweight title. McDermid looked extremely sharp in his fight landing beautiful kicks and avoiding damage with elusive head movement. He even got high praise from head official, Dan “Bam” Stell, who called McDermid the most talented fighter he saw in the tournament.

Congratulations to the Cellar Fight Team on an incredible weekend!
