The Cellar Fight Team Competes in Round Boxing Ring
The Cellar Fight Team traveled North to Wyoming, MN on Saturday to compete in Extreme Striking Promotions’ very first event with the “One True Ring” (first ever round boxing ring). The team had a fantastic showing as The Cellar went 4-1 on the evening and all of our fighters showed excellent technique and heart in the ring.
First up from The Cellar was 15yr old, Mario Peralta, one of our teen Muay Thai students competing in his first ever fight. Mario started training with us when he was 14, but he only started sparring 5-6 weeks before this fight. He trained incredibly hard for this fight and that discipline carried over to his school work as Mario also improved his grades in all of his high school classes. Mario was aggressive during all 3 rounds and showed excellent boxing skills as he won a 3-round unanimous judges decision.
Next up was Marcelo Nunes, The Cellar’s BJJ instructor, making his kickboxing debut. Marcelo landed some great leg kicks, boxing combinations, and head kicks, but his opponent kept coming. In the third round Marcelo turned it up another notch and and earned to standing 8-counts before wining the fight by TKO.
Bryn Ollerman was next to the ring as he faced a tough fighter from Canada. Bryn did an excellent job controlling the distance with his jab and landing long head kicks. When he put his combinations together he was scoring in bunches and Bryn earned a unanimous decision victory from the judges.
Ryan Sternberg had a very tough fight against a very experienced karate fighter. The decision didn’t go his way, but he has a lot to be proud of. He trained incredibly hard for this fight, did his first ever weight cut, and he had landed some great/well-timed kicks in this match. He will be back in the ring with the added confidence and experience this fight gave him.
In the co-main event was Terrance Young taking on the hometown favorite, Chase Chamberlin! Terrance gave up a considerable height advantage as well as giving up experience, but it didn’t phase him one bit. Terrance came out aggressive and took control early. For only being his second fight (first kickboxing fight), his ability to control the distance, create angles, strike at different levels, and apply constant pressure was unreal! Keep an eye out for this young fighter!
