Morin Brothers Pick Up Big Wins in Pro Debuts
The Cellar Fight Team’s Adam and Dave Morin both walked away with wins Saturday in their Pro Muay Thai debuts at the Mermaid Event Center. Adam scored a 2nd round TKO over Troy Hill and Dave won a 5 round unanimous decision over Nathan Bagby.
It was a shorter night than expected as 2 of the 4 main event fights were cancelled due to unfortunate circumstances. But all would work out well as both Morin brothers put on an exciting display in the ring that kept the fans entertained.
Adam was up first making his professional muay thai debut against Troy Hill (0-1). Adam came out cautiously in the first as Troy looked a little unorthodox throwing several spinning kicks as well as some TKD style side kicks. As Troy began to settle down Adam started landing leg kicks and a few good knees from inside the clinch. In the second it was more of the same. Adam continued working Troy’s legs until he landed a big knee to the body just as Troy was attacking. Adam then locked up a punishing clinch and began pounding Troys body and legs with vicious knees. The referee jumped in to issue a standing 8-count and Troy could not continue. Adam Morin wins by TKO in Round 2.
After siting in Adam’s corner for the fight, Dave rushed back to the lockeroom to grab the rest of his gear and then returned to the ring for his own pro muay thai debut. Dave challenged Nathan Bagby (3-1), a tough fighter from New World Combat in Forth Worth, TX and a World Combat League veteran. Both came out exchanging blows in the first and the round appeared to be even until Dave caught Nathan with a round kick to the body that forced him to take a knee and a standing 8-count. It may have been the difference maker in the fight. Nathan came out each round looking strong and determined, but also hesitant to take another shot to his side. With his arm held low to protect any further damage, Dave landed a number of lead crosses that found their mark. The two put on an exciting back and forth battle with Nathan throwing some beautiful high kicks and showing excellent technique inside the clinch, but the points continued to score for Dave’s left hand and body kicks. After 5 rounds of action Dave Morin won his pro debut by unanimous decision.
