Caleb Merth Wins by TKO in Detroit Lakes, MN
Caleb Merth traveled to Detroit Lakes, MN over the weekend to compete at Driller MMA’s No Mercy IV event at the Kent Freeman Arena. Caleb was originally scheduled to fight at a 140lb catch weight, but when his opponent pulled out on short notice, he was forced to step up to featherweight to face veteran, Sam Kohm.
Caleb started the fight out patiently landing several hard low kicks and landing some good boxing. At one point the two clinched up and Caleb attempted to lock in a guillotine choke and jumped guard to secure the position. Sam was able to fight out and started looking for ground-and-pound techniques. Caleb then attempted an armbar and although he wasn’t able to finish, he did create enough space to get back to his feet.
Upon standing, Caleb went back to work with his low kicks. He then landed a shot that forced Sam to turtle up against the fence. Caleb jumped in looking for the finish. He threw some pinpoint strikes and narrowly missed a beautiful head kick. At 2:46 of the very first round the referee stepped in and stopped the bout.
Caleb’s win by TKO moves him to 3-0 as an amateur with all three wins coming by stoppage (2 by TKO, 1 by submission). He is next preparing to compete in the 2015 TBA-SA Muay Thai Classic coming up this summer. He is also knocking on the door of a title shot in Driller MMA’s bantamweight division.
