Marcelo Nunes Wins Big Win in Iowa, Moves to 5-0
The Cellar’s BJJ and MMA instructor, Marcelo Nunes, picked up his fifth professional MMA win on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa at MCC-57. Marcelo faced off against his toughest opponent to date in 8-3 veteran, Miguel Rios Jr. The fight started out going back and forth on the feet with Marcelo landing several solid leg kicks and even a hard head kick, but Rios countered back with solid boxing skills. At the midway point in the first round Marcelo shot for a takedown, Rios reversed it landing on top in half-guard, but Marcelo went to work quickly. He regained his guard and locked up a fight ending triangle choke and straight arm-lock that quickly forced the veteran to submit.
With this Win Marcelo moves to 5-0 as a professional MMA fighter with all five wins coming by stoppage in the first round (4 submissions and 1 TKO). Marcelo is quickly moving up the ladder in the middleweight division and plans to make 2015 a big year.
Congratulations to Marcelo and thank you to all The Cellar Gym members that traveled down to Iowa to cheer him on!
