Our Student Spotlight:
The Cellar Gym’s very own, Pam Sorenson, has been receiving a lot of media attention lately! Pam “Bam” has been placed on the list as one of the next women that the seemingly unstoppable 19-1 Cris “Cyborg” wants to fight.
Cris Cyborg, a Brazilian American, has had a stronghold on the 145 lb female division since 2009 when she beat Gina Carano via TKO winning the Strikeforce title belt. Cyborg has also been a major advocate for adding a permanent female featherweight division to the UFC. This addition would open the door for a lot of women in the MMA scene! Many think that Cyborg is unbeatable but Pam Sorenson could be the secret to beating her.
Pam started training at the Cellar Gym in 2012 with goals of getting into shape and learning new skills. She is now 7-2 as a Professional Mixed Martial Artist and ranked #9 in the world as a featherweight. Last year, Pam was signed to Invicta Fighting Promotions which is the biggest all women’s fight promotion in the world! In addition to her impressive fight record, Pam has also made headway for women’s MMA in Minnesota over the past 6 years and her influence continues to pave the way for women athletes everywhere!

A Look Back At Last Month:
January is all about New Year’s resolutions and new commitments. The Cellar Gym made a New Year’s resolution to keep providing amazing opportunities for our students to help them reach their goals.
On January 20th, our fight team went 3-0 at the Mecca XI Live Muay Thai event at Canterbury Park. This was a Driller Fight promotion that featured 25 fights throughout the night.
Shuchen Ge starts the day off with a great unanimous decision win! He scored 2 knockdowns during the first round!
CJ Hays kickstarts his Muay Thai career with a unanimous decision win, 30-27!
Ryan Sternberg captures the -147lb TBA-SA United States title! He won the bout by split decision: 48-47, 47-48, and 49-46. Our hat goes off to Dusty Sparks on a fantastic fight! Both fighters will grow a ton from this experience!
What Is New In Youth Martial Arts?
In January, we moved the youth Martial Arts classes into a new classroom. It has been a fantastic change! The new space has been outfitted with state of the art Zebra mats and the floor space is double that of the previous room. It doesn’t stop there; the classroom will soon have heavy bags and few more surprises!
The students are not the only ones to benefit from the new space. The parent lobby has also doubled in size to allow parents and siblings to watch students in a comfortable space!
Coming soon: 2018 Martial Arts Summer Camp
I know that with all the snow outside, it is difficult to imagine that summer is just around the corner. Start planning your child’s summer experience by thinking about our Youth Martial Arts Summer Camp. Camp will be run from June 11th – August 31st.
We are more than just a camp! At The Cellar Gym, we believe that kids should be instilled with values such as confidence, leadership and respect! These values will help them in every area of life including leading a healthier and happier lifestyle.
Students can pick from a variety of camp options including half day, full day, one week or they can dive in for the whole summer of martial arts training. Each day will consist of martial arts classes, fitness focused games, eat healthy snack options and make lifelong friendships.
New this year: We will be adding weekly field trips to nature centers, zoos and water parks as an added bonus!
